About Us
Membership
Welcome to the wonderful world of Mothers with Multiples. There's only one place that you will find the support and understanding that a mom with multiples needs; at a Double Joy Meeting. DJMOMC was formed January 19, 1967, and most of our members live in Eastern Jackson County, Missouri, and come from Independence, Blue Springs, and Lee's Summit. We also have members from other local communities such as Lone Jack, Harrisonville, and Kansas City, to mention just a few. Come meet moms just like yourself, make new friends, share your great stories, and seek advice and information regarding raising multiples.
Listed below are just a few of the membership benefits.
Dues
Annual membership to Double Joy is $32.00. Your dues covers participation in all club activities, including the monthly meetings, Garage Sales and monthly Newsletter. Your dues also include membership to the Missouri State Mothers of Twins Club and the National Organization of Mothers of Twins Clubs (NOMOTC) and entitles you to a subscription to the NOMOTC newsletter "Notebook" and access to various studies regarding multiples being conducted around the country.
Monthly Support Meetings
DJMOMC meets the first Monday night of every month (except May, December, and holidays) at the new Centerpoint Hospital in Independence, Missouri. Instead of our regular Monthly Meetings in May and December, we have our Annual May Dinner and our Mom's Christmas Party, which usually take place on a weekend day / night.
- The Stork Club (for expectant and new moms) meets from 6:30 - 7:00 PM
- Our Meeting starts at 7:00 PM and usually lasts until 9:00 PM. After each meeting, many moms head over to Applebee's for fun and more conversation.
- At each Monthly Meeting we have food and drinks, exchange Secret Sis gifts, and often have Guest Speakers.
Stork Club
Prior to each monthly meeting, the Stork Club meets from 6:30 - 7:00 PM. This is a gathering of expectant moms and moms with newborns to seek advice, discuss options and obtain information. All moms are welcome to participate.
Newsletter
Our newsletter, "Double Talk", is published monthly. Each issue contains information about upcoming activities, items wanted to buy or sell, helpful tips on parenting multiples, and current club business. As a prospective member, you are entitled to three complimentary issues of our club newsletter e-mail us to get more information and to sign up. We will provide free newsletters to bedridden moms for the duration of their pregnancy, plus two months.
Garage Sales
Double Joy holds a Garage Sale each Spring and Fall. This is your chance to find matching twin clothes, which can be difficult or expensive at local stores. In addition to twin clothing, there are also toys, books, house ware items, and clothing for adults.
Secret Sis
This is a fun way to enjoy the year by giving and receiving cards, gifts, etc. to/from another member. Everything is done in secret, so your Secret Sis never knows who you are until the Mom's Christmas Party. Sort of a Secret Santa for the entire year. Gifts are exchanged by placing them on the designated table at the monthly meeting and then distributed by the Secret Sis Coordinator to keep your identity a secret. Participation is not mandatory.
May Dinner
Instead of having a regular monthly meeting, in May, we may meet at a restaurant or host a progressive dinner for an evening of food, prizes, and socializing.
Mom's Christmas Party
This event is for Moms Only! This is a fun afternoon or evening where Secret Sis's are revealed, new Board members are inducted, exiting Board Members are honored and where our Member of the Year is revealed. This is a great way to end our year together and have a wonderful time of socializing and sharing a meal.
Kid's Christmas Party
This event is for member families. Everyone has a fun time to celebrate the holidays.
Easter Party
This event is for member families. Usually there is an egg hunt, treats and fun games for the kids.
Annual Family Picnic
This event is held at a park with a shelter house. Food is supplied, along with fun and activities for the family. Usually a small fee is charged to cover the food costs.
Social Events
We also have several outside activities throughout the year such as adult Bar-B-Qs, mom's overnights, couple's night out, kid's play days, etc.
Philanthropy
In addition to having fun — our club also likes to give back to our community. We try to support families of multiples that are in need of assistance. We also support the Ronald McDonald House by gathering and donating supplies for their pantry. Some members have also gathered together to cook a meal for patient families.
